Job Title: Engineering Design Director Location: Dubai Salary: AED 25,000 - 30,000 Job Code: 097/001/530 Industry: Lighting / Building Technologies Job Brief: Our client is seeking an experienced Engineering Design Director to lead the company’s technical solution, product, design, and estimation capability. The role ensures that customer requirements are translated into compliant, commercially viable, manufacturable, and deliverable solutions. The Engineering Design Director will lead solution engineering, product specialization, lighting and systems design, technical documentation, and estimation across the markets. The role provides the technical governance that connects Pre-Sales, quotation, order conversion, product creation, sourcing, project handover, and downstream execution support. The role requires a strong balance of design quality, technical compliance, customer value, quotation speed, estimate accuracy, product standardization, bespoke innovation, cost and margin awareness, resource capacity, and reliable cross-functional handover. Job Responsibilities: - Lead the complete Engineering & Product Design function across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and export markets. - Lead Engineering & Solutions, Design, Product Specialization, and Estimation functions. - Develop and implement the department’s engineering and technical strategy in line with business objectives. - Lead the development of standard, bespoke, and integrated technical solutions for customer and project requirements. - Oversee multidisciplinary solutions involving lighting, controls, home automation, audiovisual, and BMS technologies. - Establish and govern design standards, engineering calculations, drawings, technical documentation, and review controls. - Ensure designs and solutions are technically compliant, constructible, commercially viable, and manufacturable. - Govern the estimation process, including BOQs, quantity take-offs, assumptions, exclusions, and quotation-support documentation. - Provide technical leadership for major, bespoke, integrated, and high-risk proposals and projects. - Coordinate with Sales, Supply Chain, Finance, Operations, suppliers, manufacturers, consultants, and customers. - Lead, develop, and manage multidisciplinary engineering, design, product, and estimation teams. - Drive technical quality, standardization, innovation, risk management, process improvement, and resource planning. Job Requirements: - Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Architectural, Building Services, Mechanical Engineering, Lighting Technology, Automation, Control Systems, or a related technical discipline. - 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in engineering, technical solutions, product management, design, estimation, or engineered project delivery. - Significant experience in a senior engineering/technical leadership role. - Proven experience leading managers and multidisciplinary technical teams. - Strong experience managing engineering/solutions, design, product, and estimation functions. - Experience with B2B, project-based, specification-driven, or configurable technical solutions. - Lighting-industry experience is strongly preferred. - Candidates from electrical systems, building technologies, building automation, smart buildings, MEP, AV/control systems, system integration, and related engineered sectors may also be considered. - Strong understanding of technical standards, solution approval, design quality, resource planning, risk, and compliance. - Ability to connect technical decisions with cost, margin, sourcing, manufacturing, installation, delivery, and customer value. - Strong proficiency with relevant design, calculation, estimation, product-data, document-control, ERP, and CRM systems. - Excellent professional English and willingness to travel across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, export markets, and project/manufacturing locations.
