Head of Private Funds Legal, Asia Pacific

A global asset management group with a broad international investment platform is looking to appoint a senior lawyer to head up legal coverage of its investment and trading business across Asia Pacific. Based in Hong Kong and reporting into the region's top legal leadership, this is a genuinely senior seat with real influence over how the firm's private markets platform develops. What you'll do: - Build and lead a team of lawyers covering the investment lifecycle end to end, from portfolio management and trading through to operations - Take the lead on legal matters for a growing private markets business, supporting the launch and ongoing running of real-asset and other alternative investment vehicles - Steer the negotiation and documentation involved in new fund launches and investor onboarding, and advise on fund governance and distribution more broadly - Advise senior stakeholders on the legal and regulatory issues that come with day-to-day trading, market access and portfolio activity, including how regulatory change lands across different APAC markets - Work closely with legal, risk and compliance colleagues regionally and globally, while keeping a tight rein on the quality and cost of external counsel What you'll bring: - 15+ years in investment management law, gained at a top international law firm or in-house at a financial institution or asset manager, across a range of asset classes - Genuine depth in private funds work, particularly vehicles investing in real assets and other illiquid strategies - A solid working knowledge of trading documentation and the regulatory landscape across Asia Pacific - Experience building and leading a legal team, plus the confidence to advise very senior stakeholders and push back on risk where it matters - An advantage if you've worked closely alongside investment or trading desks day to day The package: - A senior, regionally visible appointment based in Hong Kong, sitting near the top of the local legal function - Compensation and benefits benchmarked to a major global asset manager, with flexible leave and hybrid working - Reach out in confidence if this sounds like your next move
