Job Description

The Opportunity Privee Associates is exclusively supporting a leading international private bank in the appointment of an established Private Banking Relationship Manager in Hong Kong. This is a role for bankers who already advise a substantial personal book of Greater China HNW and UHNW clients and who are ready to place that franchise within a platform built to protect, grow and institutionalise those relationships. The bank is recognised globally for the quality of its private banking franchise and for a genuine commitment to developing talented bankers. High performers are given the product depth, credit capability, investment platform and leadership support required to convert a personal book into a durable, multi-generational franchise — and to advance their own careers in parallel. The Platform You will join an international house with a strong Greater China franchise, a full private banking product suite and a culture that rewards origination, stewardship and long-term client outcomes. Bankers are not treated as interchangeable producers. The organisation invests in people who can bring a quality book, deepen it with institutional-grade advice, and grow into broader leadership over time. • Full-service private banking platform covering investments, credit, wealth planning, insurance and alternative assets. • Access to global product, research and specialist teams across Asia, Europe and the United States. • A reputation for developing bankers and supporting personal career ambition, not only short-term production. • Hong Kong as the principal booking and coverage centre for Greater China HNW and UHNW families. Role Purpose The Relationship Manager is accountable for originating, advising and retaining HNW and UHNW clients from Greater China, with a portable personal book as the foundation of the franchise. The role combines trusted-advisor coverage with disciplined portfolio construction, credit origination and cross-border wealth structuring, working closely with investment counsellors, credit specialists, wealth planners and product partners. Key Responsibilities • Acquire, advise and retain HNW and UHNW clients and family offices across Greater China, with Hong Kong as the primary coverage location. • Bring and actively manage a portable personal book of qualified clients, deepening share of wallet through advice rather than product placement alone. • Lead holistic wealth conversations covering asset allocation, discretionary and advisory mandates, alternatives, private markets and liquidity events. • Originate and structure private banking credit, including lombard facilities, securities-backed lending and tailored financing solutions, in line with bank credit policy. • Coordinate cross-border wealth planning, succession, philanthropy and next-generation engagement with internal specialists and external counsel. • Ensure all activity meets SFC, HKMA and internal conduct, suitability, KYC/AML and cross-border marketing standards. • Maintain accurate pipeline, AUM, revenue and risk reporting; represent the franchise internally with integrity and commercial discipline. • Mentor junior coverage staff where appropriate and contribute to a collegial, high-performance private banking culture. Technical Requirements This search is restricted to qualified candidates. Applications without the licensing, book and coverage profile below will not be progressed. • A portable personal book of Greater China HNW and UHNW clients, with a track record of client loyalty and transferable relationships. Typical target books are material in AUM and revenue contribution; the precise threshold will be discussed in confidence. • Current or immediately obtainable SFC licences: Type 1 (Dealing in Securities) and Type 4 (Advising on Securities) as a minimum. Type 9 (Asset Management) is advantageous where discretionary activity is contemplated. • Status as a Relevant Individual under the HKMA / SFC dual-regulatory framework for private banking activity in Hong Kong, or a clear path to registration with the hiring bank. • Demonstrable technical command of private banking investment products, including advisory and discretionary portfolios, structured products, funds, private markets and alternatives. • Working knowledge of private banking credit: collateral eligibility, margin methodology, concentration and liquidity risk, and the credit approval process. • Familiarity with cross-border wealth structuring relevant to Greater China families, including holding companies, trusts, family offices and multi-jurisdiction booking considerations. Advice must remain within licensed scope. • Sound understanding of suitability, best-execution expectations, complex-product governance, FATCA/CRS, and Hong Kong AML/CFT and professional-investor frameworks. • Proficiency with private banking platforms, CRM and portfolio reporting tools used in institutional private banks. • Native or near-native Mandarin and a high professional standard of English. Cantonese is a strong advantage for Hong Kong and southern China coverage. Experience and Profile • A proven private banker, typically with eight or more years of HNW / UHNW coverage within an international or leading regional private bank, family office or comparable franchise. • Existing coverage of entrepreneurs, principals and families whose wealth is rooted in Greater China, whether onshore, offshore or dual-booked. • A reputation for discretion, judgement and long-horizon client stewardship — not transactional product sales. • Comfort operating in a regulated, committee-driven environment while remaining commercially ambitious. • University degree or equivalent; a relevant professional qualification (CFA, CFP, CWMA, trust or wealth-planning designation) is advantageous. What Success Looks Like • The personal book transfers cleanly, clients remain engaged, and relationships deepen on the new platform. • Revenue quality improves through advice-led share of wallet, credit where appropriate, and disciplined investment outcomes. • Conduct, suitability and documentation standards are exemplary. • The banker is recognised internally as a franchise builder and a credible candidate for broader responsibility over time. Why This Mandate Many private banks will hire a book. Fewer will invest in the banker who owns it. This institution has a global reputation for developing talented relationship managers and for helping them convert a personal franchise into a long career — with the product, credit, brand and leadership infrastructure that Greater China families expect. Privee Associates is conducting this search with complete discretion. Conversations are confidential, candid and structured around both the quality of the book and the quality of the career that should follow it.
