Senior Accountant – Ecommerce

Hong Kong | HK$40,000–45,000 per month We're looking for a hands-on, commercially minded Senior Accountant to take ownership of the day-to-day accounting and monthly financial close for a rapidly growing international ecommerce group. The role will initially have a strong focus on our Hong Kong trading entity, which operates multiple international Shopify stores with high transaction volumes, multiple currencies, significant returns/refunds and international payment gateways. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the accounts are accurately reconciled and closed each month, maintaining robust financial controls and creating efficient, scalable accounting processes. As the role develops, there will also be an opportunity to support wider group reporting across our international entities. Key Responsibilities - Take ownership of the monthly accounting close for the Hong Kong trading entity. - Reconcile high-volume ecommerce sales across Shopify, payment gateways and the accounting system. - Reconcile Airwallex settlements, fees, refunds, partial refunds, cancellations and other transaction differences. - Ensure revenue is accurately recorded and reconciled across multiple Shopify stores and currencies. - Manage accounting for customer returns and refunds. - Maintain accurate COGS and inventory accounting. - Manage balance sheet reconciliations, accounts payable and other day-to-day accounting processes. - Prepare monthly P&L, balance sheet and supporting schedules. - Prepare audit schedules and work with external auditors. - Support cash-flow forecasting and working-capital reporting. - Identify manual or inefficient accounting processes and implement more scalable solutions. - Maintain clear accounting procedures and documentation. - Support intercompany reconciliations and transactions across the wider group. - Assist with group reporting and consolidation as the role develops. Required Experience - Qualified accountant – HKICPA, ACCA, ICAEW or equivalent recognised professional qualification. - Strong hands-on accounting experience at Senior Accountant level. - Demonstrable experience working within a high-volume ecommerce or retail business. - Strong understanding of ecommerce revenue reconciliation and payment settlement processes. - Experience independently managing a complete month-end close. - Strong reconciliation and analytical skills. - Experience working with multi-currency transactions. - Comfortable working with large transaction volumes and identifying reconciliation discrepancies. - Advanced Excel skills. - Based in Hong Kong and able to work closely with the Hong Kong finance function. Highly Preferred - Shopify accounting experience. - Airwallex or comparable payment gateway experience. - Zoho Books/Zoho Finance experience - or Xero considered - Experience with high levels of customer returns, refunds and partial refunds. - Inventory and COGS accounting experience within fashion, retail or ecommerce. - Experience improving or automating ecommerce accounting processes. - Multi-entity/group accounting experience, including intercompany transactions and reconciliations. - Experience assisting with group consolidation and management reporting. - Experience with international entities and cross-border transactions. Salary: HK$40,000–45,000 per month, depending on experience.
